The Christina Stead Prize ($40,000), named in honor of the highly acclaimed Australian novelist and short-story writer, is offered for a book of fiction. The award may be made for either a novel or a collection of stories. Previous winners of the Christina Stead Prize include David Malouf, Kate Jennings, Robert Drewe, Michael Meehan and Michelle de Kretser.
